Our History

Verdon’s Transport is a 3rd generation family owned and operated National Transportation Company. First established in Wollongong by Robert and Muriel Verdon in 1967, to service the the flourishing steel and pipeline industry and Australia’s developing mining industry Bob purchased his first truck, an International R184, bogie-drive tipper.

Within 12 months, he had purchased a second truck and employed his first driver, and so began the entry for Verdon’s Transport into the world of the road transport industry.  Over the years, as the business grew, Bob increased his fleet of trucks to 30, eventually changing over to Kenworths.

They were, and still are, a magnificent sight to see traveling on the highways.  His trucks are readily recognized; partly because of their bright livery but also because one of his trucks was used in a TV commercial for Mortein. It traveled all over Australia on a promo tour for Mortein and the tale of King Red was born.  Upon Roberts and Muriel retirement Grant would take over the business and soon re-locate its base to South Australia to establish a centralised transport network in and out of South Australia.

Verdon’s Transport continues to provide services in and out of Wollongong and has grown to now service the Northern Territory and east and west coasts of Australia weekly.
